Highland and Islands Enterprise (HIE) have stated that the potential cost to dismantle and remove the Funicular could cost at least £13.3 million, leaving a huge question mark hanging over the future of the system.
Because of the requirement to maintain the mountain and treat the area with sensitivity not normally seen in large scale demolition works, significant specialist assets will be needed for any tear down.
So it's going to cost millions to repair, or millions to tear down and rebuild.
The question now is, will it ever be replaced or will it become a standing relic of bad management and corruption?
I think we can guess what the answer is to that one...
